NewHybrid control for C&I batteries: stop exporting at negative prices
Solutions / PV, BESS and hybrid C&I sites

Don't export into negative prices.

When solar floods the market, the day-ahead price drops below zero and every exported MWh costs money. BOX2M monitors the substation, the PV and the battery, and runs a second control path to the battery that doesn't go through the PCS or the inverters. The site can stop exporting, charge, or shift load for exactly those quarter-hours.

quarter-hours at negative prices, and what the site did in each
Why now

Prices now change every quarter-hour, and sometimes go below zero.

15-minute markets

The EU day-ahead market moved to 15-minute products in October 2025. Decisions, and costs, now come in quarter-hours.

More negative-price hours

As solar grows across Central and Eastern Europe, midday prices go negative more often, above all on sunny weekends and holidays.

Batteries behind the meter

C&I batteries only deliver the savings they were sold on if something reads prices and acts on them, 24/7.

One sunny day, two outcomes.

On this example day the price is below zero for about four hours around midday. Without control, the site keeps exporting and pays for it. With BOX2M, the playbook charges the battery first and curtails the rest.

  • Prices come from OPCOM and ENTSO-E interfaces.
  • The playbook runs on computed timeframes, per quarter-hour.
  • Operators see every command in the event log and can override it.

What you get

What BOX2M does on a hybrid site.

Avoid injection at negative prices

Playbooks read day-ahead prices and act for the affected quarter-hours: stop export, charge the battery, or shift load.

A second control path

BOX2M reaches the battery with its own EMS, cloud, communications and protocols. It doesn't use the PCS or the inverters, and doesn't depend on the site SCADA.

Substation and PV monitoring

Import, export, power quality and PV production, with irradiance and temperature alongside.

Manual and automatic operation

Operators switch from the command centre with a PIN. Playbooks do it automatically. Everything is logged.

24/7 alarms

Communication loss, deviations, battery and inverter events, by email, SMS, WhatsApp and phone call with acknowledgement.

Feed any VPP

A virtual feeder into the VPP of your supplier or aggregator, whoever runs it, plus OPCOM and ENTSO-E interfaces.

What we measure here

Sized to your site.

  • Grid connection: import, export, power quality
  • PV: production per inverter group, irradiance, module temperature
  • BESS: state of charge, charge and discharge power
  • Loads: production lines, HVAC, EV chargers, machinery used as a local smart grid
  • Market: day-ahead and imbalance prices via OPCOM and ENTSO-E
  • Retrofit: existing sites, non-invasive, turn-key. Deep integration with a specific BESS or inverter interface is scoped per project.

How a project runs

Seven steps, one team.

Cost and duration depend on the complexity and scale of the site. A pilot on a few sites comes first.

1

Site survey

Meters, boards, signals, networks and constraints on site.

2

Solution build

The configuration: meters, sensors, cabinets, network, platform.

3

Design, assembly and configuration

Cabinets built and devices configured for your site.

4

Live testing in the BOX2M lab

Everything runs in our lab and test cloud before it ships.

5

Installation

By a specialised technician, without stopping production or supply.

6

Commissioning and acceptance

Live data checked against your meters, alarms tested.

7

Life-cycle support

Monitoring of the devices themselves, updates and changes.
